For a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals, Nigeria and Angola will play on Friday at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny. The match is set to begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, 2nd February 2024.

In anticipation of their quarterfinal match against Angola, Nigeria has been rated the favorite to win the Africa Cup of Nations. With goals from former Everton youth product Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles breezed over Cameroon in round 16. With nine wins in ten matches in this round, Nigeria almost always advances beyond the quarterfinals. The one time they lost was in 2008 when hosts Ghana eliminated them 2-1.

This will be Angola’s most significant challenge so far; they got off to a poor start but have since picked up steam, albeit against teams they should have beaten in Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Namibia. Angola aims for a first-ever semifinal appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations, but they may have difficulty getting past a solid Nigerian team.

Nigeria and Angola: Previous Games

The fact that both sides have been evenly matched in their previous meetings suggests that this match will come down to penalty kicks.

The 2018 Africa Nations Championship was their last meeting, and Nigeria came out on top in extra time.

Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that during four of their six meetings, they could not separate themselves after ninety minutes.

In a 2005 encounter with Nigeria,  Angola narrowly defeated the Super Eagles to secure a spot in the 2006 FIFA World Cup; this would also motivate the Palancas Negras.

Probable Nigeria Lineup

Betting tips: Nigeria x Angola

Check out our predictions of the day for Nigeria vs. Angola.

Prediction 1: Nigeria x Angola / Nigeria to win

With victories against Cameroon and the hosts of the Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles have a 3–1 record in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Two of their three wins have been by a score of 1-0, and they have maintained a clean sheet in all three. Angola has played well so far, but we still think Nigeria will win due to the vast talent gap between the two teams and the forgiving nature of Angola’s path to this point.

Prediction 2: Nigeria x Angola / Under 2.5 goals

Neither Nigeria nor their opponents scored more than two goals in their previous seven matches.

Despite a marginal improvement in Angola’s goal-scoring, they are up against a team that has maintained three consecutive clean sheets and allowed only one goal in the tournament’s opening match.

There has never been a match in which more than two goals have been scored in their last six meetings. We believe there will be few goals. Under 2.5 goals looks like a great deal.

Prediction 3: Nigeria x Angola / Nigeria to qualify

Despite his lackluster performance in front of goal, Victor Osimhen has constantly threatened opposing defenses with his relentless hounding and sheer presence. We believe Nigeria will go through to the next round.
